"It's the one program I wouldn't give up"

- Parent, Throwback Sports

"Hi Coach Mike,
[My son] went to a baseball bday party at the basketball center on Sunday. He was with a bunch of 7 year olds. He was scared and didn't play at first. After a bit, he tried sliding into home plate on a mat and did well. Then he had to field a ground ball and throw it home. He was able to grab it and throw it home. His aim was a bit off, but the courage he showed was so impressive. The throw was otherwise great. He also took a turn at bat. He hit a number of foul balls and kept on trying until he hit a great line drive. He then ran from base to home. It was extraordinary ! I see what you mean re reaction time. He has some trouble transitioning, but he was so impressive! I definitely think it was a monumental turning point in his social/emotional development. He was shy, he tried, he overcame and met success. Thank you so much!!!"

"My son has auditory and sensory challenges which makes it very hard for him to participate in group situations.  He's never been particularly interested in sports and has been asked to leave several programs.

When I got a phone call from Coach Mike last year to update me on my son's progress I figured here we go again ... another program we're getting kicked out of.  Instead, it was the exact opposite, he told me how well my son was doing.  I asked him if he was mistakenly speaking about a different child and he said no and I confirmed he was in fact speaking about my son.  Coach Mike was actually surprised when I said how much my son normally struggles in a group situation.

So I asked my son, what is so different about Coach Mike and Throwback Sports?

Much to my surprise, he told me quite specifically ...
"Coach Mike doesn't use too many words and he repeats things.  He doesn't make us wait!  Even when we are taking turns, he gives us something to do."
"Coach Mike loves me ... he thinks I'm a great athlete!"

And there you have it in a nutshell ..., my son leaves each session of Throwback Sports with a great feeling of of self esteem and accomplishment, because he can follow the directions and actually understand what is being asked of him (instead of getting in trouble because he's frustrated when he can't understand what is being said.)"

"Thanks for the update on Cole.  I know he has enjoyed Throwback Sports
immensely this year.  Thank you for your patience with him during his
difficult times.  He loves physical activity and we're glad he is starting
to enjoy team sports as well."

" Just realized that Will has gotten a hit every time at bat this season. Can't believe how much you have helped him."

- Nancy Hood, Parent

"Just wanted to let you know that Ben signed up for Yorkville Baseball this Fall and today, he hit a single and got an RBI. He is very proud of himself and Jen and I are in agreement that it wouldn't have been possible without all of your hard work."

- Parent, Throwback Sports

“My son Sam has been working with Mike for more than five years. The progress Sam has made under Mike's tutelage over the years has been terrific. Mike's teaching of the basics of the major sports -- throwing a baseball, hitting, catching the football, playing tennis, shooting a basketball -- have given Sam a firm grasp of sports fundamentals. His self-confidence has grown as his sports skills have improved over the years. In the last year Sam has played on his school's softball and basketball teams utilizing the skills Mike has imparted. Mike has stressed teamwork in the kids he teaches one-on-one and in groups. Above all, Mike makes sure that the kids he teaches have fun playing -- they have fun on the court shooting hoops with him and that carries over into team games and on into future athletics, setting the groundwork for an active life. I recommend Mike Cohen and Throwback Sports unreservedly.”

“You are exactly what [the child] needs so he can grow better in sports and use it to widen his social circle. You are really doing great work with the kids. I always know they will really improve when I send them to you.”

- Dr. Cece McCarton

“It's great the way you look for outside ideas, inspirations, and information to incorporate into what you do and how you go about doing it, and allowing your work to evolve and grow with it wherever it leads.  Bravo once again.”
