How it all started…

For over 25 years, family owned Throwback Sports has operated in the New York area serving youth, teens, and the adult sports community.

Mike Cohen started the program coaching one kid in the park back in 1990 and in 1998, Throwback Sports was formed and has been thriving ever since. 

Throwback sports specializes in a skill building approach that promotes teamwork, flexibility, and leadership going beyond the world of sports — making everyday life more enjoyable.  

We offer a wide variety of choices in youth, teen and adult divisions. There is a place for everyone at Throwback Sports. Our classes are designed for people of all ages, all levels and features a variety of different sports and fitness related programs/activities.

About the youth program…

In youth sports, this community based program introduces children to the fun of sports activity. Whether for children who need to build a foundation, strengthen skills, or are up for continued development -  all children will be able to move to the next level in our program. In Throwback Sports, children can participate in a variety of options:

- all-around sports and fitness class

- basketball

- baseball/t-ball

- soccer

- lacrosse

- running/fitness 

-fitness and strength building in the park

About the teenage program…

The goal is to give the teens a chance to progress to a more proficient level of play by building up individual skills and developing even more of team concept. Interacting socially with peers and working cooperatively with the coaching staff strengthens this community based program. The teens also have the opportunity to work with younger members of the program as peer mentors- developing important leadership skills. 

Classes and programs offered:

  • personal training for fitness and strength 

  • basketball 

  • baseball/softball 

  • soccer 

  • lacrosse

  • working with the younger members of the group to develop leadership.

  • fitness, stretching and strength building in the park

About the adult program…

This community based program promotes fitness, sports play and team bonding.

The adult classes consist of:

-fitness - stretching, strength work, runnng and  various exercises in the park 

  • basketball 

  • baseball/softball 

  • Soccer

Throwback Sports promotes learning through physical activity, movement, and play. Our mission is to build skill, confidence, and ability in the kids we work with through the use of sports, exercise, and physical activity.

We believe daily physical activity and play are critical for the development of children that are both healthy and happy.
